Can you use hammerite on brake calipers

Never been keen on smooth hamerite, I find you can never get rid of the brush marks and it chips too easily, unless it has improved over the years. I have done mine with Halfords engine enamel, mainly as I think it was cheaper than their caliper paint, went on smooth and stayed on. I thought smoothrite was the way to go- other posts on the board refer to using this? I've used it many times on a number of different cars and it's been fine. No flaking at all even when the brakes have got very hot smoking.

No need for primer or masking. You don't need much on either. Too much and it will run and collect at the bottom of the caliper and look rubbish. I have no idea about using it on car parts, but I remember years ago when I was a trainee welder we used to make also sorts of wrought iron effect stuff like garden gates, fences etc among other things.

Smooth hammerite or Smoothrite as it was called for a while was the paint of choice for the finished product because it only needed one coat and it it lasted pretty much forever.

Post by cj10jeeper » 28 Feb pm Since your going to Halfrauds why not buy proper brake caliper paint. Red, black, silver, blue and yellow too I've used it for years.

Goes on easy. By the time you've painted the second caliper you can go back and do the first with a second coat. Been on my X5 for 5 years before sold and unmarked. Post by Nickm » 28 Feb pm Cj, they don't sell silver in any of their shops, mainly blue, red and yellow.

Post by pvr » 28 Feb pm Nasty kerb rash. Looks good mate, did mine a couple of years ago and still look smart. Individual , Sep 1, Nice work. Looks much better! M3Laith , Sep 1, Realist , Sep 2, Cheers, i used hammerite smooth same as, then sprayed then with lacquer.

Individual , Sep 2, I mix silver and gold smoothrite in a pot and try to get them close ish to the OE colour. I paint them, rather than spraying them. Cheers, I just didn't want the paint to melt on the calipers! Joined Dec 27, Messages 9, Reaction score Location felixstowe, suffolk! Yep will be fine, painted the Calipers with hammerite on every single one of my cars for the last 10 years only on my phone now but will post a pic of hammerite's heat capabilities when i get home.

Cool at work on my phone thinking about what I can do to the car! I'll get some and hopefully do then this weekend while it nice weather.
